Jumoke married her husband in her early 20s; she graduated with a second class upper honor in Guidance and Counseling from a university in Nigeria. Jumoke and Maxwell met at a function in Oyo state, where they both shoot their shots and things worked out as planned.
Maxwell works with an oil firm in Lagos, got transferred to their US office, but Jumoke does not have chances of moving with him. Presently, Jumoke has a boy and a girl, age 4 and 2 respectively.
Fast forward to departure day, Jumoke with her children followed her husband to the airport, his flight was for 3pm, but the got to the airport at 12.53pm. The children had thought it was an outing with their father and were so excited to have one, until one hour to the depature time, when Jumoke and her toddler said good bye to Maxwell.
At night of departure , Jumoke began answering series of question being asked by her toddler about daddy not coming home:
Folu: when is daddy coming home, its passed his welcome time
Jumoke: daddy has gone away for a while, he will not come home this night.
Folu: ok, but is he coming tomorrow?
Jumoke: not tomorrow, Folu, he has for six month.
Folu: so who will read my bed time stories to me, and who will give me my tea at night?
Jumoke: Folu I will do that for you.
Folu: no mummy, I want my daddy to them for me, (and he began to cry)
Not long after the conversation between Folu and mum, Tolu – the second child woke up to tell her mum to call daddy to buy goodies when coming home this night.
At this time, Jumoke began thinking if this was what she would have to go through at this phase of her life, she couldn’t comprehend all the question been asked by her toddler, she was overwhelmed and busted into tears. The reality was that she has to the work of a dad and a mum at a time.
Maxwell reached his destination and began work as planned, but all efforts of reuniting his family with him were futile. Jumokes LAT lasted 12 years before opportunity showed up for her.
How did you explain your LAT phase to your toddler, let’s discuss in the comment session.
